APPLYING TO ACCHS
Once you have made the decision to enroll in the Postgraduate DAOM Program you are ready to begin the application process. To be considered for admission to the Academy of Chinese Culture & Health Sciences, the following items are required:
- Online Application
- $100 application fee $200 foreign applicant
- Current resume (email to admissions@acchs.edu)
- Statement of purpose (1-3 pages expressing your reasons for joining this program, email to admissions@acchs.edu)
- One passport-size color headshot (email to admissions@acchs.edu)
- Proof of current Acupuncture License (email to admissions@acchs.edu, we will verify)
- Transcripts from all prior Chinese medicine schools (must be mailed to ACCHS directly from the institution: Attn: Admissions, ACCHS, 1600 Broadway, STE 200, Oakland, CA 94612 or sent via electronic transcript service to admissions@acchs.edu)
- Two letters of recommendation (mailed to the school directly from the recommenders: Attn: Admissions, ACCHS, 1600 Broadway, STE 200, Oakland, CA 94612)
- Additional documents:
- FAFSA must be completed if you wish to receive financial aid or participate in work-study (info below).
- International transcripts must be evaluated through a translation service such as WES.
- International applicants must satisfy TOEFL requirements and complete the I-20 process. More information: I-20 info, student visa, financial requirements.
- Transfer students (from another DAOM program) must submit official transcripts from all previous Chinese Medicine schools with a transfer credit form and pay the transfer fee.
Request accommodations by filling out a request form and submitting it with a letter from a medical provider.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
DAOM candidates must:
- Have a valid license to practice Chinese medicine (any state).
- Have successfully completed a professional Chinese/Oriental medicine curriculum and possess a Master’s degree in Chinese or Oriental medicine from an ACAHM accredited institution OR equivalent, such as a tutorial program. If you have a MAc (training in ‘only’ acupuncture), you must demonstrate to the admissions committee that you have had sufficient herbal education to meet the DAOM admission standards (Minimum 2,625 hours / 146 Units).
- If transferring credits from another DAOM program, must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.7 (B-) in all coursework, and 2.7 in any individual class.
General Education
General education for the DAOM program consists of the courses that must be fulfilled as part of a curriculum in a professional acupuncture and herbal medicine program, courses leading to a Master’s degree from an ACAHM accredited institution, including courses in:
- Acupuncture medical theory, diagnosis, and treatment techniques in acupuncture and related studies;
- Herbal studies; clinical training; and biomedical clinical sciences.
Prereqs
Applicants must have successfully completed a professional acupuncture and herbal medicine curriculum and have a Master’s degree in acupuncture and herbal medicine from an ACAHM accredited institution. Applicants may possess a license in acupuncture through the California Acupuncture Board or a Diplomate of Medicine from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
GPA
Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.7 (B-) in all prerequisite course work and at least a 2.3 (C+) in any individual course if transferring from another DAOM program.
English Language Proficiency Requirement:
The Academy requires that students maintain English proficiency for successful didactic and practical clinical training purposes. Students may complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System exam (IELTS), Duolingo English Test, China Standard of English Language (CSE), Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE), Cambridge English Advanced (CAE), Common European Framework Reference (CEFR), Occupational English Test (OET), or Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic.
Assessments
The applicant must have one of the following assessments at the required level.
The Academy requires that English and Chinese program applicants meet the TOEFL or IELTS requirements at the time of admission. A student may be exempt from the English language assessment exams if they have successfully completed a two year (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) baccalaureate level or graduate level education in an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The Academy requires that DAOM program applicants meet the TOEFL or IELTS requirements at the time of admission.

The admissions office will not consider an application from a student who has been dismissed from any school for legal, ethical, or moral reasons. Under certain circumstances, ACCHS may consider DAOM applicants who do not meet all the above criteria. Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
After receiving and reviewing all submitted documents, the DAOM Admissions Committee will schedule an interview with the applicant. This interview may be held in person, or by phone, and will assess the applicant’s aptitude, interest, and capacity to complete the program.
