Anthony Von der Muhll, L.Ac., DNBAO, FAIPM is the founder and head instructor at AOM Professional, the founder of the Santa Cruz Acupuncture Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic and core faculty and the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Science’s DAOM program. He specializes in sports injuries and orthopedic and pain conditions.

Description:

This course presents comprehensive assessment and treatment of conditions pertaining to the shoulder, arm and hand. It focuses on anatomical considerations, assessing and treating with regard to biomechanics of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. It follows the principle of “think like a doctor”, in which an acupuncturist will not simply skip to treatment, but rather rule out serious and urgent conditions and red flags, perform a comprehensive assessment to develop a detailed understanding of the condition, and then apply the various modalities of Integrative Acupuncture and Physical Medicine to treat the condition.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Assess and scan for urgent and serious medical conditions
  • Take a history of shoulder pain
  • Perform a physical exam of the shoulder
  • Diagnose and treat extra-articular pain and injury
  • Diagnose and treat acromio and sterno-clavicular joint dynsfunctions
  • Design and neck and shoulder rehab plan
  • Perform a physical exam of the elbow
  • Diagnose and elbow pain (medial and lateral epicondylitis, nerve entrapment, etc.)
  • Perform a physical exam of the wrist
  • Diagnose and treat wrist pain (carpal tunnel, ligamental laxity, etc.)
