ACCHS Launches Integrative Medicine Pilot Project in Oakland

October 7, 2026 — Oakland, CA

Today, the Academy of Chinese Culture & Health Sciences (ACCHS) launched the first community session of its Integrative Medicine Pilot Project, in collaboration with the Alameda County Behavioral Health Department, led by Dr. Eric Yuen.

Following several initial sessions serving department staff and associated workforce members, the pilot project has now expanded into the Oakland community, with an initial focus on making integrative wellness services more accessible to local seniors and residents.

At today’s Free Wellness Wednesday at Sullivan Community Space, ACCHS students provided acupuncture and acupressure services under professional supervision. The treatments were warmly welcomed by community members, offering our students an opportunity to apply their training in a real-world community setting while learning directly from the people they hope to serve.

The collaboration was facilitated by Hongli Chen, an ACCHS staff member and current student, who first connected with Dr. Yuen through community volunteer work. At ACCHS, we encourage our students to step beyond the classroom, understand real community needs, and build meaningful professional connections before graduation. Experiences like this help strengthen both our students’ education and the role of acupuncture and integrative medicine in community health.

We look forward to developing this pilot further and creating more opportunities to serve the Oakland community.
