COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will cover the pertinent history of the foundational medical classics; the Nei Jing and the Nan Jing. It will lay out the historical context for what is called the Nei Jing Corpus, which includes the Nei Jing Suwen and Lingshu, the Nan Jing, and certain texts that have been lost to us. Students will learn how these texts were compiled, how they evolved into the versions we have now, how they are structured, what is their underlying belief systems, what they emphasize, and what impact they’ve had on Chinese Medicine throughout the ages. Additionally, students will learn the historical evolution and development of pulse diagnostic methodology.

INSTRUCTOR DESCRIPTION:

Allen received his Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University and his Doctoral degree in Oriental Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health.

​Besides his institutional training in Worsley’s Five Element Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Allen is also is experienced in Master Tung’s Acupuncture System and “Jing Fang” Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine from his outside studies.
