Tutorial Example Event with Ticket Types

Price range: $1.00 through $1,000.00

This is an example event, which demonstrates and explains how to create an event and add different ticket types. Use this for any event, and CEUs.

You can duplicate the demo event, if you’d like, by clicking “Copy to a new draft” on the upper-right. Note: if you do copy this example event, you’ll need to change the “Permalink” (right below the event title). Click that Edit button, and type the same thing as the title, but replace spaces with dash (“-“).

Write all the event details in this text box. The who-what-where-when-why stuff.

Also, change the Title (above, currently called “Tutorial Example Event with Ticket Types”), the Product Image (right), Product Category (also right; this is key for differentiating if it’s an Event or a CEU; you can pick both if you want), and the Product Data section (see below).

Product Data to Fill Out

Once you’ve got all the details in this text box, and you have a title, product image, and category (important!), scroll down past this section and find “Product Data”.

  1. First, if you want more than one ticket type, change the drop-down from “Simple Product”, to “Variable Product”. This makes it so people can choose different types of tickets (e.g. Early bird, or student discount, etc.). Only use Simple Product if there’s literally a single ticket for everybody, regardless of when they sign up, or who they are.
  2. Next, the Attributes tab. Attributes are the names/types of tickets (e.g. early bird, regular, student price, etc.). You will probably need two sets of attributes, one for the kind of person signing up (e.g. student, alumni, public) and a separate set of attributes for the levels of tickets (e.g. early bird, regular, last minute, VIP). Making two sets of attributes makes two dropdown menus for customers to select. Click the Preview button (above, upper-right) to see an example of these dropdowns.
    1. When writing out attributes, separate them with the “pipe” character, which look like this: |
  3. Variations: This is for pricing. Once all attributes are loaded, and you clicked the Save button on the Attributes tab, go to the Variations tab, and click the “Generate variations” button. This will make your tickets, every possible variation. Open each ticket type up (click on the bar), and add a price. Don’t worry about the other fields.
    • Fun fact: You can make any ticket free, just set the dollar value to 0.
  4. Next, Event Settings: Check the checkbox “” Failing to check this box makes the event invisible to the public! Fill out your event details. The only required data is a date and time. Don’t bother with the timezone, it’s set for the whole website already.
  5. Check out the other event and ticket tabs in Product Data, some might apply to your event. Probably not, but you can customize stuff.

When Done

Remember to press the “Publish” or “Update” button on the upper-right of this page, to save the tickets.
